Dos Santos: I will fight Overeem but it will be unfair to me – UFC News
Junior Dos Santos, the current UFC heavyweight champion, is eager to defend his title against Alistair Overeem. However, after discovering that Overeem has been diagnosed positive with high levels of testosterone, Santos think it is unfair to him if he fights
Overeem in such a state.
In his recent interview, Santos said, “If the Athletic Committee and the UFC want to, I’ll fight (Overeem). I’m a fighter and I’ll always be there to fight, but it sure is disrespectful to MMA and how serious the sport is. I have never used these devices
to gain strength... I can say that in case they prove the illegal use of those substances, it would be disrespectful to the sport and disloyal to me. The amount of testosterone in his body can increase like 30% of his strength and aggressiveness. If Overeem
is more aggressive and strong, he will handle me better and it’s complicated for me. In case I lose, it’s unfair. It would be really unfair, but as a fighter I’ll be ready to fight anyone.”
He further said that the sport should be clean and that such tests should happen more frequently in order to check who is trying to break the rules. He added that Overeem is a good challenge to him but he certainly is not the biggest one and that Overeem
needs more conditioning and speed in order to get to his level. He then said that usually people say that your next opponent will be tougher but he does not think Overeem is tougher than his previous challenges. According to Santos, his greatest challenge
was Cain, whom he defeated to grab the title. Santos said that Cain was the most threatening fighter to him. It should be noted here that Santos had knocked out Cain in just nearly a minute at UFC on FOX 1 and became the heavyweight champion.
For now, Overeem is waiting to get clearance in order to fight Santos. If he is not cleared, the bout will not happen and Santos will get a new opponent. Either ways, it is a loss for Overeem and not Santos.
