  1. I like Juan :)

  2. Eh, tough call. I'd say yes, I think he thought he was going to be successful or he never would have left F1.

The spinning Shrub I feel was all his frustrations for the year.

Hey, recall Jimmie Johnson has trashed a few hundred thousand dollars worth of causing wrecks.

  3. I think JPM took on a bit more than he could handle when coming to NASCAR. it's a whole new ballgame...er...racing circuit.

  4. He wrecks EVERYBODY so why do people LIKE HIM now. He is even from my home COUNTRY and not my favrite DRIVER. All it does it WRECK it people.

  5. He's just trying to "fit in". You know, "be like the rest of the guys"

  6. pablo is not smart enough to think for himself.....

  7. --juan potty-mouth montoya is a disillusional finger-pointer

who needs to get over himself FAST and watch where

he's going. give this crybaby his sippy-cup and a bar of soap

  8. Montoya is a good driver, that's sure. But I have to say in the NASCAR there are better drivers than him!

  9. Why is "does" such a hard word to spell?   Anyone know?  No Juan's a nice guy and very funny.  I did a luncheon with him 2 years ago for my company and he is the farthest thing from an ego maniac.  He hasn't wrecked anyone more then Sadler or Harvick.

  10. Hold on let me read his mind....................................... forgot I can't read minds sorry

  11. he might have thought so before he managed to make it a year and a half now with only one win and being 20th in the points...

  12. NASCAR and F1 are two different things. LOL

  13. i love what he did to bush for 2 reasons....

#1- bush deserved it after he rubbed against Juan in new Hampshire.

#2- bush can finally get a taste of his own medicine after wrecking as many people as Juan. especially at Richmond

  14. I can't speak for Montoya on whether or not he thinks he is better than NASCAR drivers because he raced in F1. If he thinks he's better, it has nothing to do with his history racing in F1. Those drivers take 2400lbs cars designed to handle great and whip them around winding road courses. In NASCAR, you drive a 3400lb 800hp monster designed to handle terribly around mostly ovals. They are both difficult to do, and most open wheel drivers regard what Cup drivers do as highly difficult. So I find it hard to believe the F1 thing would have any influence on his demeanor. But his past success (or what success he had) should make him more confident in his abilities.

Truth be told, most drivers think they are the best driver out there. That confidence could come from their history of racing, others believing in them... or it might just be the best kind: pure, good old self-confidence. They need this confidence. Otherwise they wouldn't have the right racing mentality to be able to succeed in such a difficult sport. You have to believe you are the best behind the wheel so that your team believe in you and is willing to listen to you and work at it more to lead to success. You have to have confidence, but there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Some drivers are clearly arrogant -- such as Shane Hmiel, who is now banned from racing in NASCAR for the time being. When it comes to Juan Pablo, my impression is mostly confidence.

Juan's mistake in coming to NASCAR was making the move too soon and settling on a deal that was not in his best interest. Ganassi is not focused enough on his stock car team recently, and for the last 3 or 4 years, each car on that team has been slowly getting worse. Juan would have been better off waiting, and trying to get on a team that was not already in a state of meltdown.

I respect Juan because despite the team's shortcomings, he seems determined to stick up for Chip and be loyal to the man who got him into stock car racing. He knows how hard it is to get your foot into the sport, and he doesn't take that for granted. But give it a year or two, and if things don't start to turn around, I think Juan would be wise to look for a different race team. It's very admirable to be loyal. But at some point you have to start being loyal to yourself because you deserve a better situation. This is the same dilemma that Jr. faced with leaving DEI.
