  1. Yes. the heat lamp is strictly to warm his habitat to the appropriate temp for the species.

The UVB<---- the B is very important, Actually allow the body to absorb calcium. Without this lamp, or a daily dose of real sunlight (not through a window) he can develop metabolic bone disease. This is a crippling disease, but can be reversed with UVB lighting.

  2. i think

  3. Absolutely.

Dose= Does.  Tong= Tongued.  Real name= Blue Tongued Skink.

  4. yeah both of them.

  5. They need a basking heat lamp and while it is debatable that UVB is necessary, most experts believe that they benefit from it.  Here is an excellent website on all things blue!

  6. Yeah i'm pretty sure, anything cold blooded has to have a UV and a heat light, otherwise they'll get too cold..ive had a lot of lizards ;]

  7. Hello!

Lizards are cold blooded animals. They cannot generate their own body heat as mammals do.

Lizards certainly need a heat light= day time / basking and soaking up heat and energy to move.

The UV light as another person here stated is debatable.

At night however, when you turn the heat light off as you are simulating night time- your lizard will still need to be kept warm. A heat rock or heat pad placed on the opposite side of the aquarium away from the heat light will beneficial. I do not know where you live or if it gets really cold there, but this will ensure the lizard receives warmth.

I live in Australia- so I know that our blue tongue lizards like the warmth!! ;)

Just be sure that the lizard at anytime he may get too hot from either the heat lamp or heat rock he is able to move away and cool himself down. That's what lizards and snakes do to regulate their body temperature-

they soak up the warmth, and then come night time they're heart beat slows down slowly from being in the sun during the day.  Plus you don't want your lizard to burn himself if he cant move to a cooler temp in the aquarium.

Good luck! Hope this helped! :)

  8. they need a heat source but they dont need uv lights just add calcium powder to its food

  9. yes they need the heat light to digest their food and the uv light to keep their bones healthy

  10. it doesnt need to have a UV light but its a good idea to have one - and it does need a heatlight to bask under.
