Dose a generic brand of coricidineHBP give you the same high?

my son took 13 of the cough & cold generic brand for coricidinHBP it has clorpheniramine maleate 4mg and dextromethorphan HRr 30 mg pills at one time he said he thought he was going to die he got very sick and vomit several times is this called a over dose? he als said he was seinng wired things and the movie he was watching seem real like he was in it has anyone ever had that to happen

  1. Yes, hallucinations are fairly common with dextromethorphan ("DXM") overdose, which is what that was. However, an overdose doesn't always mean that someone is going to die or is in any immediate danger. Higher doses can cause seizures or serotonin syndrome, but usually, most people just have a "bad trip" and end up sleeping it off.

    The chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine, like benadryl. There isn't too much danger from taking an excess, aside from being lethargic and not being capable of good motor control. In some folks, higher doses may also have anticholinergic effects, in which case, you'd want to monitor basic vital signs, including body temperature.

You can talk to a specially trained pharmacist or toxicologist who will answer any concerns that you have and tell you what things to monitor. They can even advise you when it's necessary (or not) to take someone in to see a doctor or ER. My point is, don't wait around to the next day, if you're concerned. They're there 24/7.
