  1. Put your used Coffee Grounds on the Mound and they will carry the grounds back into the mound. The ants are unable to digest the grounds due to some sort of naturally occurring acid in them. This works well on the Ants of many sorts including the big Velvet, Bull and Fire Ants that we have in my area of Florida.

  2. The only way to find out if sprinkling garlic powder on fire ants will work is by sprinkling garlic powder on fire ants.

  3. i have them too.  this time of year, they really will be building up the beds.

i doubt if garlic powder will work.  there is nothing in it that will kill them. they would probably just move the bed over about 4 feet and build a new one.   i have never tried it, but it would be expensive to treat a lot of beds that way.

i have never tried this either, but i have heard , to pour boiling water into the bed works.  this would be a chemical free way to deal with them.

i always use the bagged product.  cant remember the name.  it is sawdust soaked in some kind of pesticide.  it is available at walmart  or lowes or co-op type stores.  it works good.  you have to wet it ( put it on the bed first, then lightly spray with a hose), or put it out before a rain.

sevin dust will kill them too.  put enough on top to lightly cover the bed plus a small amount extending into the grass.

  4. Try a variety of the following in different areas to determine what works best for the insects in your home. Insects can't stand the oils in some of the following: :

    Bay Leaves

    Cayenne Powder

    Cinnamon Powder

Rosemary (insect repellant; boil in water and add to your bath, but don't drink it)

As far as I know; garlic is an antifungal organic that helps fight feminine yeast infections when inserted and held in the vaginal region.

Garlic can also heal wounds; even post-surgical infections heal with great speed and intensity when antibiotics, medical doctors and surgeons fail.

I haven't heard anything about insect-fighting capabilities - this is the first time.

    Thanks for keeping it organic!

  5. I doubt that it will work, but try it.  Maybe it is perfect.  You won't know until you try and it isn't too costly if you can buy the garlic powder in bulk.  I have used diatomaceous earth (fossilizedd one cell creatures) for ant problems.  I have heard of people pouring boiling water on ant nests, but I haven't done it myself.

  6. From what I have heard, the only thing you can do is hire someone in to deal with them for you.  They're evil and nasty, and there aren't any ways to knock them down aside from chemicals.  Sorry.

My aunt had to hire someone in after trying everything she could think of...you would not believe the bites she got in the process.  Save yourself the agony and hire someone, k?

    Take Care

  7. UMMM, using a spice on a fire ant you must be very fleet of foot.  They are horrid, lived with the mess.  Here is a hint, be careful.  Get some diesel fuel, put some in a ketchup squirt bottle, douse the hill and drop a lit wooden match on it and take off---not organic.  Organic is to put diatamecious earth on the hill and be patient with it.  The majority of the killers do not work.  Diesel will not flare up as gasoline does it just does a toasty little flame.

  8. AMDRO..is your best bet, so many other methods just get the ants to move elsewhere. The low toxicity of the insecticide its unlikely it will harm pets, This bait is carried to the queen which may be deep underground, to rid the mound you must kill the queen. For organic control try 2-3 gallons of boiling water, this may give you 60% control, or look for products with pyrethrins or rotenone in them for organic chemicals...these may give you adequate control...good luck.....oh garlic?...no!
