  1. quicker then formula there is more nutrients in breast milk

  2. it is actually opposite

  3. ALL babies are different. I have 3 BF baies and my son gained weight the fastest and he was supplemeted with some formula then my next gained weight almost as fast but not quite as fast and she had very little supplementing and my 3rd gains very slow! She rarely gets formula and is pretty much all breast fed.

  4. It depends on the baby. Usually it is the other way around, but I've seen some chubbier breastfed babies.

  5. my kids always did. My youngest gained 9 pounds or more in his first 4 months on breastmilk alone. he stopped gaining weight as easily when he started otable food and cut down on his nursing

  6. Each baby is different but because of the high nutrient value and the good fat content it is possible.  Especially if you breastfeeding frequently.  Babies in the beginning do not move around much so they don't burn calories and loose weight. No doctor will ever limit the about of breastfeeding but I have seen them limit the amount of formula given if a baby is gaining an unhealthy amount.  I have also seen skinny breastfed babies and this is ok as well as long as they are maintaining with in the norm.  Good luck.

  7. i don't know for sure, but my daughter almost 4 month and breastfed, she's about 16lbs.

  8. It depends on your baby, really.

  9. Yes and no.

Basically if you compare a breastfed baby growth chart with a formula fed baby growth chart you will see that breastfed babies are both bigger and smaller than formula fed babies.  However there is a tendency for formula fed babies to gain weight less quickly the first 4-6 months and then more rapidly the second 6 months when compared to breastfed babies.

It is normal for breastfed babies to gain weight more rapidly than their formula-fed peers during the first 2-3 months and then taper off (particularly between 9 and 12 months). There is absolutely NO evidence that a large breastfed baby will become a large child or adult. In fact, there is good research to indicate that breastfed babies are less likely to be obese children or adults than babies who were formula-fed.

Babies who gain quickly during infancy often start to slim down once they become more mobile; ie. rolling, crawling, pulling up, walking, running, etc. Often toddlers are very picky eaters and/or become almost too "busy" to take the time to eat. The fat laid down in infancy ensures that there are ample stores to pull from during the active toddler years.
