  1. Are you talking about the progression as you grow? No that doesn't hurt.As I teen I couldn't tell that mine was worsening except when they would review the x-rays with me.  However, if your scoliosis is not treated and begins to go beyond 40-degrees, you can begin having heart or lung problems which will cause you difficulties.

In most cases, scoliosis is not painful. There are other causes of back pain, which your doctor will want to look for as well. Strengthening your core muscles can help with back pain. Anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy, massage, exercises, and yoga can help with pain relief.

You need to be seen by a spine specialist, either a neurosurgeon or an orthopedic surgeon. I don't trust chiropractors. I had my back manipulated twice, it hurt worse after they were done with it. As a nurse, I've also cared for a patients who required surgery after seeing a chiropractor because the chiropractor actually caused nerve damage.

  2. The best answer is that it might hurt or it might not.  There's no way to predict the level of pain and since everyone's curve is different, its hard to compare your curve against a friend's curve.  My curve started hurting when it was close to 60 degrees.  On the other hand, I've IM'd a woman who's curve was 70 degrees and she had no pain at all.  I also know of people that have a lot of pain with curves much smaller than mine.

  3. It depends to what degree you have it.  I am at 21% and have mild-sometimes worse.  It is in my neck and back.

Please don't let anyone talk you into an operation, until you have done MUCH research and many second, third and fourth opinions.

I have known lots of people with scoliosis who are just fine, and others not so much.

I know alot of people in this world have a small degree of scoliosis and it does not bother them in the least.

Also, there are lots of people walking around with it and don't even know they have it.

I go to a chiropractor and have since I was 18.

I ONLY go when I feel a sort of knot.  He fixes it beautifully.  It works well for me.  Remember that a chiroprator CANNOT FIX scoliosis!  But they can adjust you to help you deal with it.

Get informed and you will be fine!

    I am 45 and I was diagnosed at 13.

I must say that I DO wish I would have had it checked by a few orthopedic docs.  If I had I would have opted for a back brace.  I would be straight today.  I think a back brace is WORTH the short time you spend in it, verses a lifetime of kinks, and possibly other disk and bone complications 30 years from now.
