  1. the queen does not rule, Parliament does in each commonwealth country, she advises, makes recommendations as she probably know more about government than her elected governments.

    SAY WHAT?

  2. She rules, but has no real power. She's the Head of State but all the power lies with the Government who is lead by the Prime Minister.

  3. The Queen does in fact have the power to stop legislation by refusing royal assent, however, if she did so, there would be a hellish response from the electorate.

Her Governor-Generals have the same option in the Commonwealth nations that still have her as head of state, however, again, if they did so, there would be h**l to pay. The last time that happened in Canada, for example, was sometime in the 1920s, and there was a terrible fuss then, so if it were to happen now.....likely we'd make a motion to make ourselves a republic.

  4. She rules in name only. The government makes the laws and the queen signs the into effect.

  5. well she's basically there as a figurehead right now. the main political stuff in britain is decided by the elected prime minister, but i think the queen still gets to make some decisions

  6. The Queen of England has just about the same political power over her subjects as the Emperor of Japan has over his: effectively none.

They both are, however, the titular Heads of their respective States, and as such, are Sovereigns.

Does the Queen rule? Yes. No Kidding, Really? No.
