  1. When I know we are going to spend a lot of time on serving (or hitting) I have my players warm up by throwing a volleyball.   They start about 10 feet apart from eachother and throw three to five times each and take step back.  They continue until they are both outside of the sidelines.  I make sure they are using proper throwing mechanics.

Since the throwing motion is the same as serving or hitting, this does two things

    1. It warms up and loosens the muscle group used for serving

    2. it strengthens the muscles

We will also start at the attack lines and move back to progress to serving from the end line rather than just starting back there.  I hope this helps.

  2. u shouldnt pull anything serving..my coach told me not to swing my arm, just to throw it up where my hand is and then hit the ball.

  3. Yeah I know this person  who had had to have surgure 3 times in the knee cause you have to jump a lot

  4. Soak yourself in jacuzzi everyday and the stiffness will be gone progressively.

  5. It is painful

  6. as everyone has said, please stretch your back and especially shoulder and rotator cuff before serving/spiking hard.

i think you may have pulled or sprained your rotator cuff because it is the most common injury (along with sprained ankles) in volleyball. my recommendations are to see a physiotherapist, ice your shoulder and do rotator cuff stretches. they can be found under 'rotator cuff stretch' in google. it's too laborious to type it all out for you. good luck and get lots of rest!

  7. You use so many muscles in your body with this sport. I can definately say yes...even with serving you can tweak your back. You need to develop strong core strength (abdomen) and make sure you are using a proper technique. You don't want to hit the ball when it's behind your shoulder because you can injury your shoulder. Definately stretch before and after practice.

I hyperextended my neck playing volleyball three days before state...by blocking. be careful. It's a fun sport.

  8. no it shouldn't hurt like that. you probably twisted and maybe pulled a muscle i'm sorry :-(

  9. weell..it's the first time that u hurt..but then u will not be hurt..it's a matter of time i suppose..(i'm doing volleyball 4 years..)

  10. that has happened to me before several times!Did you stretch and warm-up before practicing? That's what was wrong with me so you might want to try that.

  11. when you are just starting out if you are not careful you can pull something in a heartbeat because you use so many muscles that you do not realize and that your body is not normally used to using so make sure you really stretch yourself out and try getting a weight work out schedule to help build your strength

  12. No it doesn't or shouldn't. I've played volleyball every since tha sixth grade and I'm in high school i haven't pull or broken nothing yet. You should be careful and caution of you surroundings.

  13. the sport can be quite painful.  be a bit more careful.  i have broken a toe and a finger playing.

  14. yea

  15. surving mite hurt be cuz ur putting all ur strength into it, but other then that it shouldn't hurt at all!!! just make sure u stretch (and a couple of laps will get the heart pumping!)

  16. I did something similar to that. make sure you stretch those muscles before your next practice like mad, and once you play more you'll be less prone to hurting it. Also, you may want to modify your serving technique. If you're bending too much to one side or the other, it can really hurt you. Ask your coach about it.

  17. you can pull muscles if you don't stretch out well enough....which does hurt because Ive done it before!

  18. Usually no..it is not that bad...but you should stretch completely before playing...

  19. Yah. Make sure you stretch for 30 minutes before playing volleyball.
