Dota 2 Hero Spotlight: Purist Thunderwrath the Omniknight
Introduction
Purist Thunderwrath the Omniknight is one of the most annoying heroes to kill in Defense of the Ancients (Dota) 2 because of the skills at his disposal. In fact, he is equally adept at ensuring the survival of his allies, thus making him even more hateful during battles in the eyes of the enemy.
Bearing a strong resemblance to Chuck Norris, the man who is renowned for kicking a*s, Omniknight happens to be pretty much an opposite. Rather than relying on brute force, he is a strength-support hero, with his core objective being keeping his allies alive. His defensive capabilities are so good that enemies will end up pulling their hair in frustration as they attempt to make him bleed to death. IceFrog seems to have definitely taken an inspiration from DC Comic’s superhero Superman while designing Omniknight as he is as close to invincibility as possible without really pushing the boundaries of fairness too far back.
Purification
His first ability is called Purification. It is a single-target spell that can be used on both you and your allies. When triggered, it will heal the target for 360 hit-points (hp) and at the same time deal the same amount of damage to enemies present within a 225 Area of Effect (AoE) of the target. The damage dealt is pure and thus will go through both physical as well as magical defense.
It is this very skill that makes Omniknight an extremely hard hero to kill and also helps him immensely in his role to efficiently play the role of support. A timely heal can win you many friends.
Repel
His second ability is called repel. It too is a single-target skill, which when trigged, will put a buff on the target unit or hero. The buff will make the target completely immune to magic for 12 seconds. The spell is pretty similar to the effect of Black King Bar (BKB), though it can be countered through purge. A little downside to the skill is that the buff also makes the target immune to positive spells such as heal, something that become quite cumbersome in some situations.
Degen Aura
Degen Aura is Omniknight’s third ability. It is a passive ability that causes any enemy within a certain AoE of Omni to have both their attack as well as movement speed reduced by 29 percent. The skill has both offensive as well as a defensive purpose. Degen Aura makes it extremely hard for heroes to chase Omniknight down and can also have a huge impact when chasing one of his allies. It is indeed a frustrating effect that will leave many players cursing Omniknight for serving his support role so well.
Guardian Angel
Omniknight’s ultimate is called Guardian Angel and like all his other abilities, this ability helps him in supporting his allies as well. When triggered, the ultimate gives near-physical invulnerability to any ally within a 600 AoE of him. The effect basically adds 1000 armour to allies and also gives them a 25 hp regeneration for the duration of the ultimate, which lasts for seven seconds at its highest level. It sure would have been sweet to see Aghanim’s Scepter working on Omniknight as some extra seconds of physical invulnerability will definitely be worth it.
Omniknight is a support hero and that is exactly how he should be played. He is the best in the business when it comes to ensuring the survivability of the team.
