Dota 2 Heroes Spotlight – Banehallow the Lycanthrope
Introduction
Banehallow the Lycanthrope, more commonly referred to as Lycan, is a melee strength hero who is a complete package of damage, speed and support aura.
His ability to effortlessly push lanes as well as take down heroes allows him to be used in a number of ways, though the latter is far more appealing and satisfying. With the aid of his trusted wolves, Lycan is able to jungle like no other, something that
is beneficial to both him as well as his team as it allows two of his allies to solo and thus makes it possible for them to level up and farm faster.
For those who harbour a strong desire to take down Roshan as soon as possible, Lycan is definitely the man for the job as his abilities allow him to take out the big man quite early in the game, though be careful not to rush things too much.
Summon Wolves
Summon Wolves is Banehallow’s first skill and it is this ability which makes it extremely annoying for relatively squishy heroes to lane against him during the early stages of the game. The skill does pretty much what the name suggests, it summons wolves.
Levelling up the skill will allow him to summon stronger wolves, while the duration for which they last remains the same, i.e. 55 seconds. At Level 4, the wolves will possess both Critical Strike as well as permanent invisibility, with the latter working pretty
much in the same way as Rikimaru’s ultimate. The wolves will reveal themselves each time they attack and will regain invisibility following a short fade time.
The wolves are both excellent at harassing enemy heroes early game, as well as farming both in lane as well as in jungle. The Level 4 wolves become even more effective, especially after receiving the buffs from Lycan’s other abilities that we will shortly
get to.
Howl
Banehallow’s second skill is named Howl. It is a global ability that applies a damage buff to him, all allied heroes and units, as well as all units under their control. At Level 4, the buff gives 50 damage for a duration of 12 seconds, while any allied-controlled
units, which also include your summoned wolves, will receive a 16 damage buff when the skill is activated.
Feral Impulses
Feral Impulse is Lycanthrope’s third skill. It is a passive ability that increases the attack speed and damage of both him as well as the units he controls, which of course points to his trusted wolves though other units he may control receive the buff as
well. The skills works in a 900 Area of Effect (AoE) and at its highest level increases both the damage as well as attack speed by 30 percent.
Shapeshift
Lycan’s ultimate is named Shapeshift. When activated, the skill will transform Banehallow into a full-fledge wolf and increase his combat capabilities. Once the transformation is active, both Lycan and the units controlled by him will move at maximum speed
and will not be affected by slows, even purge. Even if he is hexed, he continues to move at maximum speed, which indeed is a sight to behold.
When in the transformed state, Banehallow will have an additional 300 hit-points (HP), increased stack speed and 1800 vision during both day as well as night. Last but not the least; he will possess the ability to do Critical Strike, dealing 1.75 times the
damage of his normal attacks.
