Dota 2 Heroes Spotlight: Mogul Khan the Axe
Introduction
Mogul Khan the Axe is one of the best tanks in Defense of the Ancients (Dota) 2.
With an unprecedented capacity to endure incoming attacks, the melee-strength hero is often found busy in the jungle during the early stages of the game and later in the core of every team battle, forcing his enemies to focus their attacks at him while keeping
his allies alive.
Aside from being known for his tanking potential, Axe is also considered to be a nightmare to lane against. The skills at his disposal enable him to harass his enemies, especially melee heroes who really have their work cut out for them while laning against
the red-coloured powerhouse.
Berserker’s Call
Mogul Khan’s first ability is named Battle Hunger. It is because of this skill that he is regarded as an extremely strong and natural tank. Activating this ability will force everyone within a 275 Area of Effect (AoE) to start attacking him for a few seconds.
Once the skill is levelled up to the max, enemies caught under the effect of this skill will be forced to focus their attacks at him for three seconds. Do not worry as Berserker’s Call will give grant him 30 bonus armour, thus making him more than capable
of enduring the incoming damage.
Battle Hunger
Axe’s second ability is called Battle Hunger. It is a single-target skill that applies a debuff on an enemy unit, causing them to take damage overtime, while also reducing their movement speed. At Level 4, the skill deals 33 damage per second to the target
and decreases their movement speed by 10 percent. The debuff lasts for a duration of 19 seconds, which means it can technically deal 625 damage to the target. Keep in mind that the enemy can take bring the effects of the spell to an end by killing a unit.
Despite the utility of Battle Hunger, it is not taken up early in the game. Players normally go for Berserker’s Call and his third ultimate before turning their attention to his ability. While this approach may work for them, it by no means suggests that
the spell is weak and not worth taking. On the contrary, it can be devastating if taken early in the game and also shows an excellent synergy with his first skill, allowing you to trap them in Berserker’s Call as they close in to deal the killing blow to the
creep with the intended motivation of ending Battle Hunger.
Counter Helix
You must be wondering why Axe is so keen on getting hit by his enemies. Well, the answer to this will become clear once you take a look at his third skill Counter Helix. It is a passive skill that gives Axe a chance to retaliate to physical attacks by striking
back. At its highest level, Counter Helix gives Axe a 17 percent chance to deal 190 physical damage to enemies within a 275 AoE.
Culling Blade
Axe’s ultimate is named Culling Blade. While it starts out as a pretty simple single-target skill that helps him to deal 300 damage at its maximum level, it has the potential to instantly kill the target if their hit-points (hp) happen to be below 625. The
skill ignores magic immunity. Additionally, if an enemy is killed this way, both Axe as well as his nearby allies have a 25 percent boost in their movement speed which lasts for a duration of six seconds.
Aghanim’s Scepter can be picked up for Axe as it decreases the cool-down of his ultimate from 55 seconds to merely six seconds.
