Dota 2 Heroes Spotlight – Sven the Rogue Knight
Introduction
Sven the Rogue Knight is a melee strength hero who is extremely versatile with immense damaging capabilities and an effective disable at his disposal.
Due to his flexibility, he is given a number of roles, though he is most commonly played as either a carry or support. The latter role expects him to use his disable a lot, which makes him extremely reliant on mana.
Sven is naturally strong, but he is still dependent on a good farm in order to main his effectiveness during the late game stage. His roles can also be broken down considering what stage the game is in as he is an excellent support early game, superb ganker
mid-game and well, a formidable force to be reckoned with late game if given enough farm. The simplicity to his skills makes him a probable choice for players who are still relatively new to Defense of the Ancients (Dota) 2.
Storm Hammer
Storm Hammer is Sven’s first ability. Even though it is a single-target skill, it affects all targets within a 225 Area of Effect (AoE). The ability will stun the target and nearby enemy units for two seconds at all levels, though levelling up the skill
will increase the amount of damage that it deals. At Level 4, Storm Hammer will deal 325 damage to all units it affects. The skill has a range of 600 units and a cool-down of mere 15 seconds. It is this low cool-down that makes it so effective, especially
in team fights and ganking. However, it also ends up making him heavily reliant on mana as each cast requires 140 mana.
Storm Bolt is normally maxed out as soon as possible as the two-second stun and significant amount of damage it deals is extremely effective and helps him in his supporting role early game.
Great Cleave
Great Cleave is Sven’s second skill. It is a passive ability that causes the Rogue Knight to strike his enemies with so much force that he ends up dealing damage to enemies within a 200 AoE as well. At Level 4, the skill will grant him 60 percent cleave.
The cleave damage is not reduced by armour value, though it is reduced by armour type.
Great Cleave can be compared to Battlefury to an extent as both cause attacks to do cleave damage. However, the cleave granted by the latter is not as high as Sven’s ability, amount to 35 percent against 60 percent. Additionally and quite importantly, Great
Cleave is free for Sven, whereas getting one’s hand on Battlefury requires a hefty amount of gold, 4350 to be more precise.
The skill works quite nicely with Sven’s ultimate that we will shortly get to.
Warcry
The Rogue Knight’s third ability is named Warcry. When activated, the skill grants him as well as all allies within a 700 radius 12 additional armour as well as increase their movement speed by 12 percent. The effects of the skill last for a duration of
eight seconds. The great thing about this skill is that it stacks with all other armour and movement speed boosting items.
God’s Strength
Sven’s ultimate is named God’s Strength. It is an active spell that grants him a 180 percent damage buff for a duration of 25 seconds. Keep in mind that the damage boost is only for base damage and primary attribute bonuses. Another thing to note about the
skill is that when activated, there is a 0.3-second transformation time, which can be used to dodge stuns if timed correctly.
With God’s Strength increasing Sven’s damage capabilities massively, it is best to concentrate on improving the attack speed as well as getting Black King Bar (BKB).
