  1. This is the very definition of confirmation bias.  You remember the double digits but because there is no significance you disregard the times when no double digits are showing.

If you switch to 12 hour mode you will see the double digits half as often.

  2. there is no time thats 13:13

  3. Unlike the all knowing psuedoskeptics on YA for me you would actually have to conduct an experiment (yes, actually investigate) to attempt to eliminate confirmation bias (and all other normal explanations would also require testing). Alas, to be mortal and not a psuedoskeptic all we mere mortals have is science and it's methods.

Thus, I suggest that you keep a notebook and 2 pens (or pencils) near where you look at the clock or near the clock and write down the time whenever you look at the clock. I would say do this for between 7 to 30 days. I would also write down what was going on at the time. For instance if your waiting on a date (or whoever) to pick you up at 7:30 pm it might not be unusual for the clock to say 7:25 p.m. when you check the time. This entry then could be reasonably eliminated.

When this is done you can calculate the odds of it being a double digital time whenever you look at the clock and determine if your observation is beyond chance expectations.

Of course I am going to presume your honesty in this experiment because you really want to know and this is how you can find out.

This is just my opinion/belief but I don't feel anything in life has one true or right meaning. Any event in life means what you choose it to mean.

Getting a speeding ticket could mean that I shouldn't speed, or that I need a radar detector, or that I won't speed in that area again or that I have bad luck, or ....

  4. I would say it was coincidence... And maybe that you feel compelled to look at the clock every 61 minutes!

61 is a Prime Number, is the one of only two atomic numbers under 83 which represents an unstable element, is the gestation period in days for a dog, is the official length of a hockey pitch in feet.

    Now you know!

  5. either you need a new clock or a pair of glasses (eyeglasses)

  6. its whats known as confirmation bias. When you look at the clock you either see double digits, or not double digits.

When you see double digits, it sticks in your mind as significant and you remember it clearly. When its not double digits, you dont pay attention to it.

This is not an uncommon phenomenon. Ive experiemented with it, and you see double digits several times a day if you frequently check the clock.

    (its 10:10 right now, lol)

Glad i'm not the only one! I don't think much about it, but annoy my partner by saying oh look etc. Tend to get dissapointed when I miss one by a min x
