Double display shown by LCD one above the other

i am facing problem with compaq presario v5000 series notebook.
it showing double display of OS one above the other and right half of the LCD is blank due to minimum display displayed by two(below OS is showing half).
is there any solution to this ,one more thing that when i try to install a new OS it saying some device attached to the laptop is not working.
only window98 is able to load on laptop with undock configuration.
