What is the difference between a double entendre and a pun??

  1. A double entendre has two entirely different meanings, intentional or otherwise. A pun is a play on words only intended to have one non-literal meaning, usually based on the sound of the word or phrase.

    Edit: Examples

    Double entendre: "Steve Ryder covering the US Masters: 'Ballesteros felt much better today after a 69.'" The report is referring to his score, but it obviously can mean something else.

    Pun: "You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think."
