Good morning Not knowing anything about these things please offer advice I am after a patio door for my ground floor flat and have seen one which I think will fit the dimensions are

Patio Door Width 1800 mm depth height 2080 mm

Current Window width 1800 mm Height of space internal floor to ceiling is 2108 mm

I have rang a few local installers for a quote to fit this window and they said they generally dont fit as easily as a brand new one?, the window im buying isnt that old and is in great condition. DO you think that these installers are just after supplying and fitting a new window to get more cash out of me or can there be some real issues with buying a second hand door and if so please advise

  1. try yellow pages under glaziers

  2. Try and get a quote from a builder instead of a double glazing installer...

  3. its not that it second hand that may be the problem.

is it a new construction door? if so it will be high on labor side. the header will need to be chipped out inorder for it to fit.

generally when they build they "bury" the framing on windows and doors and new construction windows/ doors wont fit as a replacement. i would remove any or all wood trim on it and get real good measurements first

  4. get some quotes and get the best one to suit you.

  5. It would be better with a new frame but it isn't essential.  Do what you think is best for you.
