Double hung exterior french door install?

Question

I'm replacing a double sliding glass door and I'm researching options for replacement.

Ideally, I want to install double french doors leading out to my backyard, but it seems these doors only swing inward.

Is it possible/wise to install exterior doors that swing outward? It would simply be more convenient for my house...

Hi J,

I'm not aware of any codes determining which way the door should swing, but you may want to research your local code department.  You may also want to consider that your hinges will be on the outside virtually making the door useless for security purposes. ;)

There are ways to get the doors to swing out, but it pre-supposes that you don't want/need storm doors  (or the likes) on the outside -- otherwise, the french doors wouldn't be able to swing outwards.

When you order the doors, just tell them you want the doors to swing outwards.
