Double standard or not anymore? married women are supposed to wear wedding bands but men not?

In the year 2008, do you agree it is still like this? What do you think about a man requesting that his wife wears her rings at all times (week-ends at home too!!!??) but he doesn't have to? What do you think of a man who says he will stop wearing his wedding ring in public, if the wife doesn't wear her rings in private too, just for revenge? To me, that's ridiculous and so "passé". To him, it's the double standard that he sees as being the right thing. What are your thoughts? When was it ever like this (this double standard)?

  1. I deal with the ring thing this way... My hubby doesn't wear his because he says it is dangerous at work and he just forgets to put it on otherwise.  So I don't wear one either.  When He asks me about it I tell him.... it is simple... you wear yours and I"ll wear mine.   That is all.  If he doesn't wear his,  I don't wear mine.   Seems fair to me.

  2. Me and my hubby don't wear them so we don't have to worry about something like this... As long as we both know were married that's all that counts to us...

  3. I wear my ring because it is a fabulous ring that I am super proud to wear and my husband does not wear one because he is in the army and working with his hands all day so he is worried he will lose it or break it and he doesn't think they are masculine. I don't care. I love my ring and wear it, but if he was going to a cheat a ring is not going to stop him.

  4. OMG, this is too funny.  I hadn't actually thought about it, but yes, I wear my wedding ring 24/7 and he goes without.  With his job, he's not allowed to wear one because he works with "480 V" of electricity, so it would be dangerous.  Anyway, he doesn't wear it when he comes home because it's gotten a bit "snug" (he says it's really hard to put it on and off, which is true) and we haven't had it resized or bought new ones.  Anyway, I mentioned to him just now that since he doesn't wear his, I'm not going to wear mine.  OMG!  His reaction, too funny!  I asked if he would feel hurt if I didn't wear it, and he said, "No.  But that doesn't matter because you are."  Meaning he would be, lol.  Anyway, some of my single friends get hit on ALL THE TIME, which I complained about because I never get hit on (not to cheat, just to see if I still have it) and she says that I and my husband both give the "I'm taken" vibe, so I guess that works.   Plus, my husband works in what is a mostly male environment. Anyway, interesting subject!

  5. I always wear my wedding band everyday. To me it's a symbol of my devotion and love for my wife.

  6. I expect my wife to wear her ring anytime it's not being cleaned. She expects me to wear it anytime I'm not in an area where it creates a snag hazard at work.

I've never forgotten to wear my ring for more than an hour or two after work.

As far as not wearing it, whatever. Sounds suspect.

  7. This is new to me my husband wears his ring.

  8. That's bad if a man insists his wife wear her band 24/7, and he only gets to wear his when he feels like it.  To me that means that particular man still wants to 'appear' single while married at his convenience.  Yeah I still think it's a double standard.

  9. You should never ever take your wedding ring off if you are married, only maybe to clean it if you get dirt in there or something.  I would never think of leaving the house without my wedding ring on.  Why doesnt she wear her ring in private?  To me that just says that she likes the idea of being a married women to show off to people, but when she is in the house with her husband its like she is saying "ok show is over, I dont have to act like a wife since nobody in public can see me"   Its totally weird.

  10. Thats nuts wear the rings if you want.  I know several people that can't wear rings since they are allergic to the metal or it is unsafe.  I'm a mechanic so I don't even wear a watch since it can get hung up on things.
