Doubles Tennis Question?

When one person is serving, and it's a mishit and it hits the partner of the person who's supposed to be returning the ball, does it still count as the server's team's point?

I heard an argument about it the other day between some friends on the high school tennis team, just wanted to clear things up.

  1. yup it still counts but if the ball didn't hit the person then the server would serve again or do whatever comes next.

  2. If it hits the returning team (player or partner), it's the serving team's point.

It violates two rules:  One, the net player may not be the first to touch the ball on a serve return.  Two, the ball must bounce before you hit it.

I know it seems unfair, but the net player should be able to react quick enough to an errant serve to avoid being hit.  If he does get hit, he's probably either standing very close to the service box to intimidate the server, or he wasn't paying attention.

This isn't to say that you should aim at your opponent's net player.  That's just not good sportsmanship.  Now, if the net player is practically standing in the service box you should be hitting to, there's nothing wrong with a couple warning serves down the T just to say "I know you're there, and I don't care."  If you do that, chances are the net player will back off a bit after a couple of close serves.

  3. if person 1 and 2 are on one team and person 3 and 4 are on the other team, if person 1 is serving and hits person 2 in the air, it's person 3 and 4's point or you hit a second serve...if it hits either person 3 or 4 in the air it is person 1 and 2's point

  4. What a good question, I have never thought of this hahaha, it's very funny LMAO.

The server team won the point
