Doubles coach Rexy Mainaky happy with his changed role in supervision – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Doubles chief coach, Rexy Mainaky will now serve as the head coach for Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles shuttlers. The Men’s Doubles category is no more under his supervision as Tan Kim Her is appointed as the new head coach for the elite squad.
Rexy has been working with the Men’s Doubles squad for the last five years and his main focus was on World Number Five pair of Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat. The recent poor performance of shuttlers at the 2011 World Championships has forced the Badminton
Association of Malaysia (BAM) to make some essential changes in the coaching setup.
Now, Kim Her will work with Men’s Doubles while Women’s and Mixed Doubles categories will now work under the supervision of Rexy. The decision was taken by the Coaching and Training Committee (CTC). Rexy is quite satisfied with the decision of CTC and is
determined to fulfil his new role with his maximum abilities.
After the CTC meeting, a satisfied Rexy said, “The most important thing for me is that all our roles have been clearly spelt out. Now, it is clear who is doing what.”
He further added, “I think the best decision that came out today is the move to put the elite and back-up players under one squad. The best and up-coming players will be able to train together every day and that is good for everyone.”
While talking about his feelings about the new role, Rexy said, “There is no reason for me to feel disappointed about coaching the women and mixed doubles players. The changes made today is the best for the Malaysian team and I accept it.”
The main target of Rexy now is to secure shuttlers with a place in the 2012 London Olympics. Goh Liu Ying – Chan Peng Soon in Mixed Doubles and Wong Pei Tty – Chin Eei h*i in Women’s Doubles will be main shuttlers under his supervision in the national squad.
