Doubling up on rubber bands on braces question?

i have an orthodontist appointment next week, and although i've been wearing my rubber bands constantly for the past month, my teeth seem like they need just a little more push to be perfectly lined up. i was thinking about wearing double rubber bands while i sleep tonight, for about seven hours, and JUST tonight. i can deal with the pain but i was just wondering what the SERIOUS side affects of this will be, because i can't imagine that wearing them for seven hours would really ruin my teeth that much. but my main problem is, will my orthodontist be able to tell that i wore them doubled. is it possible for him to see that?

i just want my orthodontist to be like, wow, she wears her rubber bands a lot and her teeth look GREAT! so i might be able to get them off sooner.

  1. Noooo, do NOT double them up. Trust me, your orthodontist did what he did for a reason. If he thought it'd be a good idea to double them up, he would have told you to. He WILL be able to tell that you did, if you decide to. It could have serious side-effects that will take even longer to reverse. Just stick with his plan; he knows what's best for your teeth...you don't.

  2. if you are wearing them every day you are so far ahead of most that he will be thrilled

  3. if u can handle the pain there shouldn't be a problem

  4. i used to do it, there was no problem.

  5. Your orthodontist is the expert, not you. Don't do it.

  6. Yeah i agree with the other guy.

But i had braces a few years ago, and i doubled up for about 3 weeks.

    My teeth are perfectly fine.

    So use your own judgment

  7. I did that. They can't tell if you doubled them. It's very painful, but if you're doing it, there's no harm in it. My orthodontist was thrilled when she saw I wore my bands, "every day." :]

  8. NO!!!

I have asked that questions too. It can ruin your teeth because it pulls them with to mush force and can make your teeth all crooked.

Just take it slow and use 1 at a time

  9. NO OMG DONT DO IT!!!!! I DID SOMTHING SIMALAR WITH MY RUBBER BANDS AND IT WENT TOO MUCH SO NOW I HAVE TO WEAR THEM THE OTHER DIRECTION!!!!! AND THEY HAD TO ADD ANOTHER BRACE!! AND PUT A HUNK OF GLUE INBEETWEEN MY TEEH I CANE BITE DOWN!! DONT DO IT!!

  10. First side effect:  You won't be able to separate your jaws to do anything:  eat, drink, talk, ANYTHING.

Second side effect:  You dentist is trying to move the teeth at a specific rate, like a millimeter per month.  Double-banding will shift the teeth much faster than expected, possibly tearing the anchor teeth from their roots and causing the loss of those teeth.  For example, if the current bands are set to pull 4 mm/month and the tooth resistance is 3 mm/month, the net motion is 1 mm/month.  Double the bands, and it's 8 mm/month versus 3 mm/month for a net a 5 mm/month, 5 times what the doctor would expect.

Please don't do it.  Braces are cheaper than replacement bridges.  I did it for one hour one night when I was 13 and in braces, and woke up with a lot of pain and bleeding just from the extra force of the second bands.  Anyone who says they did it and nothing happened is a LIAR.

  11. don't do it!

because when i had braces, i would doubled up the week before i had one appointment and my orthodontist kept saying that the rubberbands weren't working right and stuff

    i was like ooops

he never asked me, but it did not work out right and i had to wear different rubberbands in a different pattern to move them like back, soooo

    dont do it

    ha

  12. HORRIBLE IDEA, if the orthodontist wanted more progress he would have given you stronger bands

  13. it could mess up your teeth
