Doubts over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432’s Tottenham move
It seems like everyone is talking about David Beckham and his impending return to the Barclays Premier League.
Tottenham are close to finalising a deal with the football icon to bring him to White Hart Lane until the start of the Major League Soccer season in March 2011. Spurs fans are already wringing their hands in anticipation. However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 legends Kevin
Keegan and Steve McManaman doubt whether the move will happen at all.
Speaking on Beckham’s future, Keegan said, “Playing for England again, playing back in the Premier League, that'd be a big ask, I think.” While he was skeptical of the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international’s chances of playing for his country again, he added that
Beckham would be the ideal candidate to occupy the manager’s chair for England someday, saying, “He's a bright guy, he's worldly, he knows how to communicate with people, he's got vast experience. If he wants to be a manager, that's fine.”
Steve McManaman was a bit more optimistic than his former boss. The Liverpool legend will not rule out the possibility of Beckham’s return to the Barclays Premier League; however, he doubted that the midfielder would be joining Tottenham.
McManaman said, “If he comes to England and he performs fantastically well and he influences games like he can do, I think it'll only be a positive (in his bid to play for the national side). We'll wait and see whether he does come and ply his trade back
in the Premier League. I think (Tottenham manager) Harry Redknapp said exactly the right thing yesterday. It's a loan deal within a loan deal, which is the problem for a lot of Premier League clubs. I know certain clubs would do that but I think with the bigger
clubs, it's going to be hard for them.”
Almost all pundits agree on one thing though- If Beckham does sign for Spurs, the media circus surrounding his return to England will have a negative impact on Tottenham’s title chances this season.
It remains to be seen whether the football icon can be lured back to England. Whatever happens though, January promises to be a decisive month for the current season of the Barclays Premier League.
