Doudou Ngumbu scheduled to defend WBF light heavyweight title against Nadjib Mohammedi – Boxing News
Doudou Ngumbu, the current World Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion, will defend his newly acquired title for the very first time against most probably the toughest opponent of his career, Nadjib Mohammedi, the current World Boxing Federation Intercontinental
light heavyweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on June 15, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view being organised and promoted by Robert Safrani of B C Center. The ring for the title clash will be set up at Salle Jean Roure situated in Les Pennes-Mirabeau, Bouches-du-Rhone, France.
The showdown will be co-headlined by the non-title 10-round bout between Frederic Serre and Samir Zidi Nettour. Both Frenchmen possess almost an equal amount of talent, proficiency, resilience and above all win and knockout ratios.
Ngumbu, 30, has been in a total 32 bouts and emerged victorious in 29. The Congo-born brawler has pinned just 11 opponents by knockout and therefore is considered a pretty resilient light heavyweight with quite a tough chin.
In addition, the defending champion is coming from a three-bout win streak. Doudou collected an impressive decision against Aleksy Kuziemski in order to grab the vacant World Boxing Federation light heavyweight title and will now defend it for the very first
time against Nadjib.
Mohammedi, 27, is a surging young French pugilist who has been in a total 30 bouts and boasts 27 wins. The young lad has nailed 14 of his opponents by knockout is also on a three-bout win streak just like Ngumbu.
Nadjib grabbed his World Boxing Federation Intercontinental light heavyweight title from George Tevdorashvili by nailing him via unanimous decision. After that the orthodox Mohammedi defended it successfully against Mohamed Belkacem.
Moreover, Nadjib is currently rated as the number one light heavyweight in his country as compared to Ngumbu who resides at the third position. Therefore as far as the stats and technicalities are concerned, Mohammedi possesses a clear upper hand over his
Friday night opponent.
Nadjib not only possesses a slightly better knockout ratio but also has the minute height advantage which if capitalised well can aid him in nailing the Toulouse resident Ngumbu.
One more facet that might create a bit difference is the fact that Nadjib has taken on men with substantial and somewhat decent experience in his last three bouts whereas Ngumbu has nailed men with least experience.
The bout will be a tough one as Nadjib will strive hard to defend the top position in his country’s divisional rankings whereas Ngumbu will be seeking a career boosting win in order to catch media’s attention so as to move up in the rankings.
