Doug Bollinger ignored my advice in second ODI: Shaun Marsh
Australia’s middle-order batsman Shaun Marsh said that bowler Doug Bollinger brushed aside his advice of scoring singles during the second One Day International match against England at Hobart.
“I tried to tell him just to keep rotating the strike and keep the ball on the ground, but he ignored everything I said and kept hitting hard,” Marsh told the media.
Bollinger, who is touted as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s new batting hero, stood his ground when his side was struggling hard to cross 150. He put on a spirited stand with Marsh and conjured an unexpected partnership of 88 runs for the ninth wicket to give Australia a defendable
total of 230.
“He played some wonderful shots and it was fantastic the way Dougie (Bollinger) ignored my advice,” Marsh coyly added.
He said that if he had taken his suggestion to “keep it on the ground,” they could not have achieved a modest total.
Marsh replayed how he told him to “just hit a single, mate” when the 29-year-old fast bowler came to the crease.
Bollinger, whose highest score was 3 from his previous 27 ODIs, continued to hit big shots. Batting at number 10, he supported Marsh well and together they drove their team to 230 and set a new Australian record for the ninth wicket.
Marsh said that Bollinger went on to score 30 but his “work was done.”
Bollinger, who had a disappointing stint at the 2010-11 Ashes series with figures of 1 for 57, proved his mettle with the ball as well when he took crucial wickets of English captain and opener Andrew Strauss (19) and dangerous hitter Kevin Pietersen (0)
off successive deliveries.
He led the way for Australia’s bowling attack with figures 4 for 28 at a time when Shaun Tait suffered an injury in his left upper thigh and left the field after bowling just 5 overs.
Stand-in captain Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 had to call back Bollinger in the last 5 overs after Australia suffered another setback during the match as spinner Nathan Hauritz also left the field due to a shoulder injury.
Bollinger then dismissed Tim Bresnan and James Tredwell in the 44th over to help Australia lead the seven-match series 2-0.
