Doug Collins excited about the coming season for the Philadelphia 76ers – NBA Update
After a break out last season and the arrival of Andrew Bynum this off season, Philadelphia 76ers coach Doug Collins has every reason to be happy.
“I like our versatility, I think we can play big, we can play small and I think we have the best low post player in the NBA,” Collins said recently. “The big thing is how quickly we can put it together.”
“We think we have added size, we think we have added shooting,” Collins said. “If we have our health I think we can do a lot of things.”
During last season, Philadelphia 76ers qualified as the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference and then went on to knock down the mighty Chicago Bulls in the first round. A case can be made with luck going in their favour
as Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah went down injured for the Bulls, but to their credit, the Phillies closed the series when the opportunity presented itself.
Philadelphia then took the Boston Celtics to seven games in the second round and pushed the veteran unit to the limit.
As soon as their season came to an end, the focus of the Philadelphia management shifted towards making successful playoff runs a regular feature and for that reason, they made a lot changes in their roster, starting with the release
of Lou Williams and the amnestying of Elton Brand .The biggest change however came when Andrew Bynum was acquired in a four team block-buster trade which saw Dwight Howard leave for the Los Angeles Lakers and Andre Iguodala depart to the Denver Nuggets.
Other new additions made during the summer include Kwame Brown, Jason Richardson, Dorell Wright, Nick Young, Royal Ivey and Arnett Moultrie. All of these players have been brought in to add depth to the Philadelphia roster. With
Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes, Thaddeus Young and Lavoy Allen already a major part of the rotation, the Sixers do stand a good chance of finishing the regular season in the fourth or fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.
For Collins, the biggest task at the moment is to work on the team chemistry.
“We have to be ready when the season starts but I think our guys are committed to that,” Collins said. “I am looking forward to it.”
