The Philadelphia 76ers coach is excited about having one of the best centres present on his roster
Andrew Bynum could possibly be the new face of the Philadelphia 76ers – a player who can help them claim their first ever title since 1983.
Coming off from their best outing in nine years by making it to the second round of the playoffs, the Sixers have been making moves to take a strong step forward.
They cleared a lot of cap space by letting go Louis Williams and then used the amnesty clause on Elton Brand.  Now with the arrival of Bynum, the Sixers can take the final leap into being strong champion ship contenders.
The arrival of a true big man to play in the middle is the start of exciting times for head coach Doug Collins who in his 823 games stint has not seen a better deal.
“I’ve never really had that guy that can possibly give you 20 points, 10 rebounds, and a couple of blocks a night, so (acquiring Bynum) is really exciting for me,” said Collins
The four team block buster trade saw another player arrive in the form of Jason Richardson and Collins believes that he can also be an important part of the Sixers rotation.
Collins who was part of the analyst team covering the Olympics had a conversation with fellow NBA Coaches regarding which big men threatens their team the most and on Wednesday during the introductory press conference, he revealed
his conversation with Doc Rivers.
“When I was in London for the Olympics, (Boston Celtics head coach) Doc Rivers was there. One day (a few days before the trade was completed), we were talking about low post centres and Doc said to me, ‘really the only guy I worry
about is Andrew Bynum,’ and I was about ready to choke,” said Collins
This puts the Sixers right in the mix of strong Eastern Conference teams and with good perimeter shooters like Richardson, Nick Young, and Dorell Wright present, they can prove beneficial for Bynum as teams would be reluctant to
double-team him.
