Sixer Head Coach says that in order to improve defensively the team needed to let go of some old players and bring in some new ones....
The fans of the Philadelphia 76ers are very excited about the future of the organization, particularly now that Andrew Bynum is part of the franchise.
The Sixers were a good team this past season, but lacked the star presence to push them to the next level. They were a great defensive unit, and reached the Eastern Conference Semi Finals, only to lose to the Boston Celtics in
seven games.
The Sixers knew that they needed to make some roster changes if they wanted to move into the next tier, and got the opportunity when they were made part of the four team blockbuster trade that landed Dwight Howard in Los Angeles.
The Sixers got former Lakers big man Andrew Bynum, but had to part ways with veteran guard and long time Sixer Andre Iguodala.
With Iguodala gone and the Sixers having amnestied veteran forward Elton Brand in the offseason, they know have a future franchise player in Andrew Bynum as well as cap flexibility to sign some good players in the coming years.
The future of the Sixers franchise is looking good, bringing fans back to the sport.
Sixers head coach Doug Collins was on 97.5 the Fanatic in Philadelphia and talked about the franchise and the future.
“I personally thought we had maxed our team out I thought we were a team that every night played hard, we played terrific defence and if you looked at our team other than Andre Iguodala we really didn’t have a premier defensive
player individual. So to do the things that we did on the defensive end to give us a chance we thought was really, really good but we knew if we were going to make a move that we were going to have to get better and unfortunately when you do that you’re going
to lose good people,” said Collins.
Collins also talked about the new big man, Andrew Bynum and the task he had ahead of himself in adjusting to the new role and the new team, while at the same time improving and developing to become the face of the franchise, something
everyone is expecting him to become.
Bynum may have two championship rings under his belt, but it is now that his NBA career is about to really begin. He will have to prove that he has the leadership skills to take this team to the next level.
