Doug Collins talks Andrew Bynum; Excited about the new start for Philadelphia 76ers – NBA News
Doug Collins is one of the many people who will be indirectly affected by the recent blockbuster four team trade that landed Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the teams involved in the trade, in fact an important player in the trade. The Sixers received Lakers former big man Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson from the Orlando Magic. In return, they sent their All Star player Andre Iguodala over to the Denver Nuggets. Iguodala is currently in London playing for the U.S.A basketball team as they compete in the Olympics.
Collins is also in London as part of the NBC team that is covering the Olympics broadcast. And as expected, he was asked how he felt about the trade and the addition of the two players into the line-up.
“When you think about adding Andrew Bynum, a big man who can score in the paint, rebound and block shots — something we desperately needed — and Jason Richardson adds another shooter to our line-up, so I’m very excited. On the flip side of that you have to trade somebody and Andre Iguodala had a brilliant career for the Philadelphia 76ers. I coached him for two years, he helped me win a lot of games. I’m very, very appreciative of him and I wish him well in Denver.”
Collins will be coaching a new look Sixers next season, after the addition of Bynum. His arrival will definitely change the way the Sixers play basketball, with Bynum being the new centre of attention.
Having a big man in the low post will definitely be an advantage for the Sixers, and they will be looking to fully utilize that advantage come next season. They had an amazing season last year when they finished 8th in the Eastern Conference, defeated the top seeded Chicago Bulls in the first round of the playoffs, and then pushed the Boston Celtics to seven games in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals.
With the addition of Bynum and Richardson, the Sixers will be looking forward to climbing one step higher next season.
