Doug Fister helps Detroit Tigers beat Baltimore Orioles 7-2 – MLB Update
Doug Fister finally managed to put up a decent show on the mound as he earned his third win of the season to help the Detroit Tigers crush Baltimore Orioles 7-2 at Oriole Park in Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, July 13. It was the opening
game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Fister is having an ordinary season. With just two wins and six losses prior to his showing on Friday, the struggling starting pitcher had not been able to live up to his immense potential, but the right hander gave up just three hits in his seven effective
innings to lead the Tigers to their sixth straight win.
Allowing just one runs while striking-out eight, he earned his first road win in seven tries. It will be interesting to see if he can continue his excellent work in the upcoming months to lead the Tigers to their second straight American League Central Division
title.
"We had a little break from each other, saw our families and did whatever we needed to do for a few days," Fister said. "We came back, reconvened, and we played well together. That's the biggest key for us."
Brennan Boesch is also making the most of available scoring opportunities these days. He singled to right in the first and Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera scored to put the Tigers 2-0 ahead. Third baseman Cabrera had another decent outing as he homered
to centre in the fifth to extend Tigers’ lead to 4-1.
"It was a good way to start," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said. "He had little bit of a tough first half physically. I wanted to show a little confidence in him. I thought it was good to get him out there right off the bat and he responded very well."
However, the star of the show was Johnny Peralta, who hit a three run home-run to right to give Detroit an impassable 7-1 lead. Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters scored for the Orioles but apart from them none of Baltimore’s hitters were able to come to the
party.
