Doug Fister helps Detroit Tigers crush Minnesota Twins 8-0 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers showed just what they are capable of as they annihilated the Minnesota Twins 8-0 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, September 22 in the opening game of their three match series.
Austin Jackson homered to left in the first inning to put Tigers on the board. Alex Avila also made his presence felt with an RBI single to centre in the second inning.
Tigers’ slugger, Prince Fielder also had a decent outing as he singled to right in the third inning to extend Tigers’ lead to 3-0. Delmon Young smacked a three run home-run to left in the third to deny Twins any chance of coming back into the contest.
Andy Dirks scored on a wild pitch and third baseman Miguel Cabrera homered to left in the fourth to end the game on an extremely aggressive note for the Tigers.
Twins’ starter Samuel Deduno had a horrible time on the mound as he gave up seven hits and seven runs in just over two innings.
"This is what you play for, a chance to be in it," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "Obviously, we felt we would do a little bit better than this, but we haven't and we're still playing for something."
"Looked like a golf ball that he hit," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said of Cabrera. "He's incredible."
"It was much appreciated and an honor for Skip to let me go back out there and trust me," Fister said in a post game interview.
Tigers dominated their opponents in almost all departments of the game. The pitching rotation in particular executed the game plan to perfection to make quick work of Twins’ batting line-up. Starting pitcher Doug Fister was the star of the show as he pitched
his first complete game of the season.
Allowing just seven hits in nine sharp innings, he grabbed his 10th win of the season. Striking-out seven batters, he kept Twins on the defensive. Fister will be looking to continue his impressive form to help Tigers replace the Chicago White
Sox at the top of American League Central Division standings table.
