Doug Fister put back on DL by Detroit Tigers – MLB Update
According to a leading sports website, Detroit Tigers Doug Fister’ has been put on the disabled list for the second time this season with a sore left side. Fister is expected to have an MRI scan this week so the Tigers can make an official announcement
on his status.
Fister is an extremely talented pitcher and he has given some decent performances since the start of the season. Manager Jim Leyland is looking for his replacement these days. It may not easy for him to find a right handed starter with same qualities
as Fister. For now, the skipper has added catcher Omir Santos to the roster, which will also allow Gerald Liard to play as a designated hitter.
Detroit Tigers have a number of issues to address to put things back on the right track. Big hitters such as Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young have failed to make the most of available opportunities. Even the ace Justin Verlander has
struggled with his control in his last two starts. It seems it is now or never for the Tigers.
"It's been bothering him. After his first start a little, then a little bit more and a little bit more. So we're just going to DL it and try to get it right once and for all," Leyland commented on the situation.
"He's been (Toledo's) most effective pitcher. I think he had 10 strikeouts in his last game. That's the guy they gave us, so that's the guy we take. That's how we work. When we need someone, we call down there and ask who they recommend and he was the one,"
Leyland said of Crosby in an interview.
Due to his sore left side, Fister had to be placed on DH last month as well. It appears as if the injury is of serious nature and he may have to miss the entire season to recover from it.
According to sources, Tigers have called Casey Crosby, who will be starting in a game against Boston Red Sox. It is also not clear if Crosby can become a permanent replacement for Fister but he will an excellent opportunity to show what he is capable
of.
