Dougal Philps confident about the Exchange Inn Ballybunion & Kevin Brodericks Bar Listowel Handicap
Quite a few entries have the potential of leaving a lasting impact in the Exchange Inn Ballybunion & Kevin Brodericks Bar Listowel Handicap, but the most promising of all is the three-year-old bay gelding, Dougal Philps. The bay gelding will race with eight other three-year and above runners who have the aim of taking back the €14,625 prize money.
The W. P. Mullins trained has raced thrice during the new season, and has only improved through the outings, winning the last outing and scoring second in the rest.
The Mrs. S. Ricci owned started off the season with a second position in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 3YO Median Auction Maiden on 11th June, 2012 at Roscommon over a mile and two furlongs.
The favourite entry, Violet Lashes, landed the race in companionship with, Fran Berry, and squeezed Dougal Philps' chances by four lengths.
The three-year-old had his next stop in the “Jape” Maiden on 12th July, 2012 at Leopardstown over a mile and four furlongs. Yet again, the bay gelding failed to fight back the favourite entry of the race, Shelford, who raced on with the final 3 ¼ lengths in his favour.
After getting beat by the favourite twice, the bay gelding out of, Bella Bertolini, got entered as the most celebrated candidate in the Craic On The Track 19th August Maiden on 23rd July, 2012 at Ballinrobe race course over a mile and a furlong.
After racing out of the fourth trap, the mount of Pat Smullen, covered considerable ground when racing in second, and then joined the leader when the final three furlongs were to go.
He soon drew clear and defeated Jpevie by 4 ¼ lengths.
Settling third behind the winner was, Drops.
The 4 to 1 entry will race from the first stall with jockey, Gary Carroll. He has won over more than seven furlongs before and that too on the surface that was soft to heavy and today it is only heavy.
He will need to look out for the 4 to 1 entry, Northern Rocked, who is more experienced, but has been deprived of success since a while. He might be in a mood to create an impact.
