Dougie Hamilton to play a major role in Boston Bruins campaign next season, experts predict –NHL Update
Dougie Hamilton, a Canadian professional hockey player, who was signed by Boston Bruins in December of last year, has been declared by the top prospect and an emerging powerhouse defenseman after his excellent performance in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
Born to Olympian father and mother who had represented Canada in the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles, U.S.A, Dougie Hamilton inherited sports from his parents.
His father, Doug Hamilton, had represented Canada in rowing competition and his mother Lynn Polson, had represented Canada in Basketball. Dougie’s elder brother is also an ice-hockey professional playing in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
The 19-year-old defenseman started his hockey career at the age of 15 with St. Catharine’s Falcons Min. Midget in Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) in 2008-2009 season. Next season, he joined Niagara IceDogs in OHL, where his performance got better and better with time.
Hamilton played 64 games in the first season scoring 3 goals, 13 assists and total of 16 points, played 67 games in the second season, scoring 12 goals, 46 assists for total of 58 points and had his best season last year when he played just 50 games and scored 17 goals, 55 assists for total of 72 points.
Dennis MacInnis, director of amateur scouting for International Scouting Service, while talking to the Star said,
“I think Dougie Hamilton is the best defenseman outside the NHL. He’s got a terrific future in Boston. Can you imagine him and Zdeno Chara on the point on the Bruins power play?”
Peter Chiarelli, while talking to the Providence Journal, also had good things to say about Dougie Hamilton. He did not make any prediction but still he had only good words to say about him as he said,
“[Hamilton's] on a real good progression line, development line. He’s a real good player, a real good prospect. I’m excited that we have him in our group. I don’t want to hand anyone a job at this point in July, but based on what I’ve seen this year and in this camp, I think he’s going to be a top challenger for a spot.”
