Dougie Lockhart retires from international cricket
Dougie Lockhart, the wicket-keeper batsman for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756, has retired from international cricket.
He announced his retirement as he feels this is the right time to take the decision.
He said, “This is the right time for me to finish my international career. Representing Scotland requires 100% commitment, discipline and dedication and I have always prided myself on the high standards I have set. And the Scotland team over the 2004-05
period was the strongest I was involved in.”
Dougie represented his country in 14 One Day International matches, scoring 218 runs at an average of 24 with a best of 46. He was mainly known for his wicket-keeping skills. He has not done badly in his first class career either, amassing 849 runs at an
average of 23. His tally of runs includes four fifties and a century.
His only century came in a first-class match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 in the Intercontinental Cup 2008 when he scored a supreme 151. Working behind the stumps, he has 115 catches and 11 stumpings.
Lockhart, who made his international debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 at the Cambusdoon New Ground, Ayr in August 2010. He left a lasting impression in his last game, taking three catches.
He said, “I feel extremely proud and privileged to have played for Scotland over a period of significant development for the game in this country. I have enjoyed every minute of it and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to play in One-Day Internationals,
first-class matches, ICC tournaments and English county matches for Scotland.”
He also captained Scotland on seven occasions, leading them to three victories. Post retirement, he is looking forward to start his career with Barclays Wealth.
The Veteran added, “I will miss the dressing room atmosphere and the adrenaline from big games, but I know in my heart that the time is right. I look forward to moving on to the next phase of my life in my career with Barclays Wealth, and spending more time
with my wife Joanne.”
Lockhart has been one of the best cricketers to represent Scotland. His experience on the field cannot be ignored. His gritty batting in the late order cannot be disregarded. He certainly will be missed behind the stumps and in the dressing room. These are
big boots to fill in, as he has been a great contributor for his team.
