The 24-year-old’s representative insists that his client will remain in the Eredivisie despite interest from Newcastle United and Fulham.
Douglas' agent, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rodrigo-c31437 da Silveira, has insisted that his client will not be leaving FC Twente Enschede to join Newcastle United or Fulham this summer.
The Brazilian-born Dutch stopper has long been linked with a move away from De Grolsch Veste this summer transfer window. A host of European clubs including the likes of the Magpies and the Cottagers have reportedly been interested
in luring the talented central defender away from the Eredivisie outfit.
However, the club chairman, Joop Munsterman, mooted all speculations linking his side’s star player with a move away from De Grolsch Veste, and revealed that his side has yet to receive any bid for the 24-year-old.
Douglas’ agent has now further quashed speculations linking his client with a move to join the Cottagers or the Magpies.
“We're not in London and won't go to London. We're with Douglas in Enschede and don't negotiate with Fulham”, Da Silveira was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
The Brazilian-born Dutch stopper’s agent went on to reveal that his client is happy to stay in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bursaspor-c38700 on Thursday, August 30.
“Douglas will be on the pitch on Thursday against Bursaspor. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 and will stay there”, Da Silveira concluded.
The highly-rated centre-back arrived in Enschede in the summer of 2007 after spending a season at Joinville. The player has thus far represented the Tukkers in over 100 league games, providing rock solid defence while netting 11
goals along the way.
His consistent performances for the past couple of seasons have garnered him interest from several top flight clubs in Europe. However, it seems extremely unlikely that the central defender would now be leaving the Eredivisie side
in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Douglas has an ongoing contract at De Grolsch Veste that is due to expire in the summer of 2013, but reports indicate that the club management is keen to offer him a new deal in the coming days.
