Question:

Dove building nest too close to front door-how do I gently get her to go elsewhere?

A grey dove keeps putting her flimsy nest atop a post that is 3 feet from my front door-each time anyone comes or goes (the house is for sale so that's a lot) she flutters off in a panic. There are no eggs yet, this just started 2 days ago. This morning I hosed the 'nest' down but she is determined and she is back up there. How can I get her to go elsewhere to start her family, this is not a good place-there is a mess there daily (little twigs and grasses) and her flying around is startling- just too close to my front door!! Any help with be appreciated thank you-

  1. There is no gentle way to "suggest" that she go else where to nest.  She has picked her spot and made plans.  The only way to "change her mind" is to knock the nest down and cover the post up with a bucket, burlap bag or some sort of ornamental flower pot if you are concerned of what potential buyers may think.

  2. you cant really until it moves away it has eggs in the nest if you move it it will just kill or leave the babies no matter what anyone say plz listen

  3. No eggs yet..knock the nest down then take a couple of used scratched up cd's and hang them on a string each side of where she is building the nest...they blow in the wind and reflect sun rays like a mirror..and scares them off
