Question:

Dover Circuit Saddles??

Have any of you ever used a dover circuit saddle? I am looking at the dover circuit pro specifically, but any help would be great. I know you can test ride, and I will, but I need to save up a bit more first. So here is my question: If you have used a dover circuit saddle, how was it? Was it a good jumping saddle? How was your contact? And is it show worthy? Any other info would be appreciated as well

  1. I have never ridden in it but it looks like a nice saddle. You didn't say what discipline but if you are an eventer I would suggest  the Stubben Roxane S. BUT with the saddle your looking at it looks like you can't but your stirups up like an eventer does, but for hunters I think it would be great! Don't go with me though! I have a Stubben-that I LOVE! But I have never ridden in that saddle.

  2. I have ridden is a dover circuit elite, and it wasnt that great. The color rubbs of soooo easily that you have to take way to much care of it just to not have dye-less flaps. It was ok for jumping, but it just wasnt up to par with any other saddle i have ridden in in that price range. The contact was ok, but its kind of a jumpign saddle, not a C/C saddle. It would be good for some shows, but it just doesnt seem like an A circuit saddle.

    M. Toulouses are worth the price ( around 1000, mabye less) but much higher quality.

  3. NOT VERY GOOD SADDLES! They make it seem like they are but they actually have a very hard seat and are extremely slippery. My friend has one and she rode in the rain at a show with it for not even ten minutes and now its all spotty and mottled looking. If you're gonna pay $700+ for a saddle get a Collegiate, they are the most comfortable saddles that I've ever ridden in, that or an HDR. But don't get a Stubben either, they also have really hard uncomfortable seats.

I hope I helped, good luck with your saddles.  (:

  4. I have one and i love it. Well it sucks a little because it is a huntseat saddle and i do eventing but it is very comfortable.

-it is made of sort of cheap leather so you have to condition it regularly but otherwise it is a good saddle.

  5. Looking at what the site says about the saddle, it stresses "French Leather" but doesn't tell you WHERE the saddle's manufactured, which is a scary question.  Although it says "lifetime tree guarentee" it doesn't tell you what type of tree it's built on (That's scary too!).

If you're going to pay close to $1,100.00 plus shipping for it, I'd save up additional money and go with a REAL European saddle, say Stubben, Courbette, Passier or Pariani.

Or, check out ebay!  Chances are you can find a gently used saddle like the one below for a good price.

  6. I find that Dover Circuit saddles are very stiff and do not break in easily, also i think the leather looks cheap. If you are looking  for a nice cheaper saddle i would go with a Marcel Toulouse. They aren't as well known but they are made of excellent leather despite the price and are SO comfy. The premia is the more expensive model but an excellent jumping saddle.  I also recommend the Ariano and Noelle models. Get one fast--I bet as these get more popular their price will shoot up. They were $200 less a year or two ago.
