Dowell Loggains replaces fired Chris Palmer as Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator – NFL News
Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams has proven true to his warning that he would soon start scrutinising staff from the front office including coaches if the team did not improve their performance and first subject of his cleansing drive is offensive coordinator
Chris Palmer who has been relieved from the duties.
Head coach Mike Munchak, who had a meeting with Bud a couple of weeks ago and informed of the stern warning to officials from the owner, confirmed firing of the Palmer.
He said:
"I have a great deal of respect for Chris Palmer as a coach, and that was the reason we brought him here. I appreciate the time and effort he put in here, and I want to wish him and his family the best moving forward."
Mike also confirmed that quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains has been promoted to perform into full offence coaching responsibilities. He added:
"As an offense, I didn't feel like we were progressing the way that I had hoped. I believe we needed a change in direction, and I hope to see that progress in our remaining games. Dowell has worked here for a number of years under some very successful coordinators,
and he is ready for this challenge."
The move was seen inevitable after the Titans’ humiliating defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars, which also has diminished their playoff chance. The Titans were able to pull off a good win after being put on notice by the owner. The Jags loss was also significant
to the team’s performance given about half a dozen easy opportunities were lost.
Soon after the game, the coach rued indiscipline of the team, which he noted to be the main reason behind their loss. It was true to an extent that the side failed to capitalise on about six turnovers and an interception. Had they converted those chances
to touchdowns, a victory would have been easier for them.
The owner who has been monitoring the team’s performance closely was disappointed about the outcome and did not have to wait for the offseason to go ahead with his planned hiring-firing drive. Possibly more officials are expected to go as a part of the rebuilding
process.
