Hello,

I am doing a project in biology and I was wondering if it is possible for someone with Down Syndrom to have a child? If so, are there any documented cases I could look at? I find this very interesting :) Thanks! (links would be nice)

  3. Yes!  Most are not going to get to the point of creating a child.  (You know what I mean.)  But, yes, it is genetically possible and from what I've read many are parents to healthy children.  Go figure!

  4. i have an 18 month old daugher with Down syndrome.  When she was born, we had a meeting with a geneticist, and he gave us all kinds of information.  One thing he said was that women with DS usually have all working reproductive organs, but the males usually don't.  I don't think that is 100% of the time, but i do believe that is the case majority of the time.

  5. i'm sure they can,  and the baby will be born with trisomy 21.  it's the scientific name for down syndrome.  if a baby is born with three #21 chromosomes, rather than the usual pair, the baby would be said to have "trisomy 21" :D

  6. Yes, but you won't find any case histories because that's an invasion of someone's privacy.

    .

  7. Yes, it is physically possible and does occur but often birth control methods are employed for prevention.

I will share this, not so long ago, when there were more state run facilities, persons with this type of diagnosis were rendered infertile via medical procedures. There were lawsuits addressing civil rights issues and this practice was halted as legally acceptable.

    Hope this helps.
