Down fall of Macbeth essay?

Hey for english i need to do an essay on "what caused the down fall of Macbeth." Can anyone tell me their opinion on who caused the downfall and be able to break it into something i could use for an essay? cheers

  1. It might be off topic, but it might help as well...

    However, I always found this interesting:

    MacBeth, at first, is horrified by what his wife suggests.  Kill the King?  Why would any good man do such a horrible thing???

    However, he gives in and does the deed.

    This launches him into a spree of murders, each one - no matter how terrible - easier for his conscience to accept.

    However, at the same time, Lady MacBeth is so eaten with guilt that she goes mad.

    So we have a complete role reversal here....


  2. Yep, I agree with the first answerer. Macbeth caused his own downfall. Greed, the inability to stand up to his wife, and ignorance would be 3 good supporting paragraphs for your essay. Good luck.

  3. Macbeth caused his own downfall, but much of that was because he listened to Lady Macbeth.

    Other people might say it was his destiny, and he did not know how to escape it.
