Down in trip, Anjaz all set for a crack in 32Red Handicap at Wolverhampton
Competitively handicapped and down in trip - Anjaz, who showed a bit of promise on return to Polytrack last time, is geared up to show a cracking performance in Wolverhampton’s 32Red Handicap on Friday, November 16th.
Anjaz has been winless since her two straight wins last year. But she surely has made a few very good rides in defeat lately. After doing a reasonable job at different venues, Anjaz made her way back to Polytrack in mid October, when ending up fifth in the Europa Quality Print Handicap at Lingfield.
Although Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge could not finish among the toppers, she really showed some good stuff in the hands of William Buick. Carrying the odds of 10 to 1, she held up off the pace towards rear. The pressure soon started mounting up, but the filly made smooth progress to make herself prominent.
The Godolphin-owned switched right just a couple of furlongs before the wire, and subsequently battled really hard for the fourth place in the final moments. However, the early mess was so severe that despite plenty of effort, she could not become a threat to the leaders.
Today’s event is certainly a tricky puzzle, but the vote goes to Anjaz, who is highly likely to show improvement after a competitive effort latest. She has a dozen horses to beat in the class 3 meeting. Over a distance of one mile, one furlong and 103 yards, the participants will start pursuing a prize of £6,663 at 19:15 GMT.
Super Say captured the close second over nearly 1m3f on the Dundalk Polytrack penultimate start. Loyalty has gone dramatically the wrong way in last four appearances, and looks to have nothing in hand. Come On Blue Chip has won a few races here, but under different circumstances. Polar Kite has faced a few big defeats this year, and does not turn us on.
First Post, on the other hand, deserves some respect. The Derek Haydn Jones-trained showed some decent form recently, and has shared the podium here in the past. Grey Mirage is enjoying good odds because of the enormous talent he carries. But Marco Botti’s charge, who was seriously disappointing last twice, should be overlooked.
