Down the Earth cool, but center boiling?

Why is it that if your below the earth (or city, for example, a subway station) that it's always cooler but they say it scalding hot in the center. Is it cool as you dig but gets hotter?

  2. When you dig just below the surface it gets cooler because the soil above acts as an insulator.  Actually, if you were to dig below ground in the winter it's warmer.  That's why they bury people six feet down, because the ground never gets cold enough to freeze below six feet.

    As for the center being hot, it actually gets hot a lot closer to the surface than the center, with the center being the hottest.  That's why we have volcanoes.  The hot lava is actually melted rocks that are made hot because there is so much pressure on them.  Pressure generates heat and the more pressure the more heat.  Gravity causes the pressure that causes the heat which melts the rocks and metals inside the earth.
