Question:

Downgrading due to Gas?

I currently have a fully loaded Escalade ESV that is totally paid off, and has a Blue Book Value of $42,000. I am really unhappy with the gas mileage of 13mpg.

We have been talking about getting a minivan, or maybe a smaller SUV, and to do this and continue to not have any payments, we would have to do it soon.

I really like the new Toyota Sequoia, but would really like a Hybrid, or something that does really good on gas.

  1. Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Your trade-in value could most likely pay for the entire car. It can get up to 32 MPG and manages to have unbeatable reliability. My neighbor has a 2006 Highlander Hybrid and loves it. It has a very civilized ride, as well as an amazing navigation system and a peppy engine. I wish I could trade my SUV in for something smaller or better on gas. I get a similar gas mileage with my GMC Envoy.

Or, since you prefer the Sequoia, I would highly recommend the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. It does not get as good of a gas mileage as the Highlander, but it will be very practical if you are comparing towards the Toyota.

    Good Luck & Drive Safe

  2. not sure what your asking....but I assume your asking what a good replacement is? Well how bout a car? You can fit the same number of people in a car unless you opt to get a third row seat. Some possible SUV's I'd get is:

    Lexus RX350h hybrid

Audi Q7 3.2 Third Row seating

Some big car's I'd get are

    2006 BMW 750IL

    2004 Audi A8L

Car's are so much more efficient than an SUV. If you need to haul stuff or tow things then I'd get an SUV.

  3. I think you may be surprised trying to sell the ESV it may not get what you are looking for.  That said A little smaller but fine quality and great gas mileage I would go with the Toyota Highlander Hybrid which you could probably get for close to what you sell the Caddy for.

  5. Go with a Honda Odyssey van.  Big and roomy, good gas mileage.

  6. The Escalade won't bring $42K, it may not bring $30K

  7. I hate to break this to you but the value of your Escalade as a trade in is not going to be what you think, and the private seller market your going to have to give these things away by the end of the summer... I have an old F-250 beater truck that gets single digit mileage, I'm waiting until the end of the summer to try to pick another newwer one up for pennies on the dollar...I need a big truck to tow my boat....

  8. Just to get one thing out of the way...

No three-row SUV (even the new Tahoe hybrid) gets good gas mileage. I realize it's all relative, but if you're looking for a heavy vehicle, then you shouldn't try to find that one magic SUV that gets 30mpg.

If you need the space and don't mind the stigma, then it's "MiniVan City" for you. And don't let that scare you. Sienna and Odyssey models can be as loaded-up as your Escalade. Plus, they get decent mileage.
