West Brom’s joint assistant head coach Keith Downing insists that on-loan summer signing Yassine El-Ghanassy will get a chance in the first team, and believes that January could be the youngster’s month as the club will lose some players to the African
Cup of Nations.
The 22-year old winger has not had a chance to kick start his season with the Baggies, being only one of numerous new players arriving at the Hawthorns in the summer transfer window.
The player was loaned from Belgian outfit Gent, with an option to make the loan spell permanent if El-Ghanassy manages to make an impact with West Brom.
The player has still not made an appearance in the Premier League, and has had to make do with a few starts in the Capital One Cup and the reserve academy games.
The coaching staff is currently working on improving the defensive aspect of the young winger’s game in order to make him better suited to the physical rigours of the Premier League. The player has shown considerable progress ever since he made the move,
and is understood to be given a chance soon.

Keith Downing insists that Yassine has the ingredients to make it in the league, and believes the player is making progress and adapting well to the ‘English way’. Speaking to the club’s official website, the coach said:
“Yassine’s a young player, coming into a new environment, a different culture, a different way of playing. He’s adapting to the English way. It’s just not about attacking but about defensive, positional play. He’s just learning the game, going through a
period of working on what we’re telling him to do.”
“He’s just not someone we’ve thrown out of the window. He’s still very young. In January, when people are away, he will be considered. He is learning and seeing how it should be done. It’s all a learning curve for him.”
