Liverpool winger, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221, has expressed his desired to stay at Anfield, despite having emerged in rumours of a possible switch in January.
The English International has had a toilsome spell at Merseyside since his 20 million pounds move from Aston Villa in July last year. He has represented the Reds in 64 matches thus far, but has only found the back of the net on 4 occasions.
Consequently, the new Anfield boss, Brendan Rodgers, initially opted to drop him to the bench, given his innocuous presence in the frontline. However, in order to involve him in his plans, the Ulsterman later altered his role, pushing him back to the left-back position, in order to add a cutting edge in the defence. Still, the player is yet to make an impression and finds himself back from here he started.
According to some reports, Rodgers plans on off loading the misfiring 20-million pounds weapon in the January window. The manager has already made manifest his intentions of bolstering his offence, and might do away with some fringe players in the squad in order to facilitate the transfers. Downing is one player who fits the billing in this regard.
Nonetheless, the player does not plan on pursuing a career elsewhere. In fact, the 28-year old said that it was always his desire to represent a club of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s calibre and he will leave no stone unturned to win the confidence of his manager.
However, he also admitted that being on the bench was at times frustrating for him, but was confident of making amends soon.
“We'll have to wait and see. It's a great club to play for and this is why I wanted to come, to play in a good team. Hopefully it long continues,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think it's been a bit up and down - frustrating at times. I've been disappointed this season not to play as many games as I have, but I'm just trying to do my best when I've played and trying to get a goal.”
Downing has only made 5 league appearances this term.
