Stewart Downing vows to fight for his place in the team – Football News

Midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221, has admitted that he will work extremely hard to fight for his place in the Liverpool starting line-up for next season. The player had an improved season last term as he made some impressive appearances
for the Reds.
There have been reports that West Ham United have expressed keen interest in signing the player from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. The Hammers have already secured the signing of Andy Carroll from the Reds earlier this summer and an addition of Downing
to the squad would surely help their cause.
Downing claimed that there is still a lot left in him as he looks to fight for his place in the team. The club has already made the signings of Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-c4309 and Iago Aspas who will both be competing with Downing. Raheem Sterling
is also competing for a place on the wings.
The winger stated that every side has at least two or three players fighting for a spot and this competition for places only makes the team better. He added that there are a host of competitions the team participates in and there
is a good opportunity for everyone to play.
“At every club, you need at least two or three players in every position to keep people on their toes, but especially at a club like this. We're fighting on many fronts - cup competitions and the league - so you have to be strong
in every department. But competition brings the best out of players, and hopefully it will in me,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the former Aston Villa man stated that Liverpool can achieve their goals of they play as a team. He admitted that the team will be fighting for major honours next season.
“If we play like that again as a team, we've got a real chance [of success]. For me personally, I've just got to keep going,” he concluded.
Stewart Downing made 45 appearances in all competitions and scored five goals in the process. The winger also accumulated nine assists last season which was a major improvement from the previous campaign.
