Downloading HD video from Sony video camera to PC -- how do I avoid breaking the original file?

The original files are around 1-2 hours and stored on the camera hard disk as one file. When I download to the computer the original file is broken into multiple files each around 30 minutes. How do I avoid this?

You don't. The camcorder breaks the contiguous files automatically due to video data file size and handling efficiencies. Put them back together again with an AVCHD compatible video editor.
