Downloading free software for motorola v505, i have the usb cable but it won't work without installing softwar

i have the usb cable or data cable [ not sure what's its called] but the computer is not responding to it as it has not been installed. were can i get this to install to my pc { for free }

For free? Tou hace to be kidding. The Motorola Phone Tools is $50. You can download a free trial Mobiledit! Lite but that's about it.
