Downloading home video to computer?

how do i download a home video (its on a dvd) to my apple computer? i would like to send it in to americas funniest home videos but i cant figure out how to download it so that i can edit the video so that its just the funny part and not the other full 3 hours of the vid.

what i do is capture from the camera its self and edit it on the computer.. otherwise its just a matter of copying it off the dvd onto the computer somewhere and working from there.. you should be able to pop the dvd in and check the files on it... OR open the program you want to use to edit and open the file from the dvd drive.
